The full text
1. What stays on your phone
Your PDFs, highlights, notes, signatures and library stay on your phone. Reading, marking up and the Pro tools all run on your phone, and you can use them without an account.
2. What can leave your phone, and when
- AI summaries: if you ask for a summary, the text of that document is sent to an AI service provider to make it. It is your choice, and we ask first.
- Account and purchases: if you buy something or sign in, the details that keep your purchase working are handled as the main Privacy Policy explains.
- Usage and crash reports: see section 4.
- Sharing: if you share or print a file, it goes where you send it.
3. Permissions
The app asks for access to your files so it can open your PDFs. The optional all-files access lets it list every PDF on your phone, and the app works without it.
4. Usage and crash reports
PDF Reader uses Google Firebase for simple usage events and crash reports, with a random app ID that isn’t linked to your account, with advertising ID collection off, and with no file contents. You can turn them off in the app’s settings.
5. How long data is kept
Your PDFs stay until you delete them. Text for an AI summary is not stored after the summary is made, and it is not used to train AI. The summary itself is saved with your document on your phone.
6. Rest of the policy
Everything else is covered by our main Privacy Policy. The rules for using the app are in the Terms of Service and the Terms of Use, and the Data Deletion Policy explains how to delete your account. PDF Reader is for people aged 16 and over.
